Burning in The Village of Oregon, The Town of Oregon, The Town of Dunn, and The Town of Rutland is permitted if it meets the restrictions listed for your area.
THE FIRE DEPARTMENT MUST BE NOTIFIED BY PHONE (608-835-5587) PRIOR TO ANY BURNING IN THE OREGON AREA FIRE/EMS DISTRICT
THE INDIVIDUALS BURNING WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES AND/OR EXTINGUISHMENT COSTS
Outdoor Burning in The Village of Oregon is prohibited with the following exceptions.
Exceptions. Outdoor burning is permitted in the following circumstances under the direct control and supervision of the Oregon Fire Department;
-For the purpose of cooking food on a grill, barbecue, or other device specifically
designed for outdoor cooking;
-Ceremonial, camp or bonfires, with prior written approval of the Fire Chief.
-In accordance with a burning permit issued under BURNING PERMITS. Any person or persons desiring to bum brush, attached grass, fields
(for environmental management purposes) shall apply to the Fire Department for a permit for such burning.
Any person obtaining a permit to burn shall follow the instructions and directions prescribed by said Fire
Department and shall permit the Fire Chief or his appointee to come upon the property in order to exercise
the enforcement function. Permits for such burning shall be obtained on the day of the burning. Permits will
be issued and are subject to cancellation by the Oregon Fire Chief or his appointee. Burning with permits
will be allowed only on the first and third weekends of the month during daylight hours.
-BURNING OF TRASH, PLASTICS, RUBBER, CONSTRUCTION WASTE, TREATED WOOD & PAINTED WOOD, WASTE OIL, AND RECYCLABLES IS PROHIBITED
-FIRE CHIEF OR POLICE DEP ARTMENT MAY PROHIBIT. The Fire Chief or Police
Department is permitted to prohibit all outdoor fires and burning when atmospheric conditions or local
circumstances make such fires hazardous.
-BURNING ON STREETS. No material may be burned upon any street, curb, gutter or
-LIABILITY. Persons utilizing and maintain outdoor fires shall be liable for any loss or
damage caused by such fires.
-CITATIONS. The Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chiefs, upon observing violation of this
section, may issue a citation to the Municipal Court as provided in CH. 800 Wis. Stats. and Section 1.17 (3)
of this Municipal Code.
