• What if I want to run for local office? The Village Board and Municipal Judge are elected offices. The Village Board is made up of the Village President and six Trustees. The terms of the Village President and three Trustees expire in odd numbered years. The terms of the remaining three trustees expire in even numbered years. The term of the municipal Judge lasts four years.
  State Statute requires that individuals seeking election complete: Declaration of Candidacy, Campaign Registration Statement and Nomination Papers. These forms are available at the Village Clerk's Office or on line at the State Elections Board web site. Individuals interested in running for local office may begin to circulate nomination papers on December 1 of the year preceding the election year. They must obtain not less than 20 and not more than 100 signatures from eligible Village electors. Nomination Papers, Declaration of Candidacy and Campaign Registration Statement must be completed and submitted by 5:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday in January of the election year. Although the Declaration of Candidacy is not due until the first Tuesday in January it is recommended that it be filed prior to the circulation of nomination papers.

• How do I register to vote? The population of the Village of Oregon requires mandatory voter registration. You may register by completing the State Elections Board Voter Registration form. The form is available in the Clerk's office or online. If mailing this form to our office you must include a copy of your driver's license or social security card. (Link to Registration Form)
• How do I know if I am eligible to vote? You must be a U.S. citizen, be at least 18 years of age and have resided in the ward or election district that you wish to vote for at least 10 days. You may not vote if you are currently disqualified from voting for any of the following reasons: You have a felony conviction for which you are still serving probation or parole. A judge has made a ruling that you are incapable of voting. You have made a bet or wager on this election. Or, you have voted previously in this election.
• How do I obtain an Absentee Ballot? Application for Absentee Ballots can be obtained in the Clerk's office or online. Applications should be completed and sent to the Village Clerk's office. Mailed application requests must be received by 5:00 p.m. on the Friday preceding an election. Applications made in person must be received by 5:00 p.m. on the day before an election.
